Robert P. Skane

Mr. Robert P. Skane of Waltham died Wednesday, September 26, 2007 in the Newton Healthcare Center. He was 89. Born in Quincy, Mr. Skane had lived in Reading and graduated from Reading High School. He moved to Waltham in the 1940s. Mr. Skane was employed as a repair technician for New England Telephone Company in Arlington for thirty eight years until his retirement. Prior to that, he had worked for the Raytheon Corporation in Waltham. Mr. Skane enjoyed all sports, especially the Boston Red Sox. He coached Little League and Babe Ruth teams, the Saint Jude Basketball and Baseball teams, and the Boys Club Basketball team all of Waltham. Mr. Skane was a member of the Waltham Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Doris (Dunn) Skane; his children, R. Michael Skane and his wife, Helen, of West Chester, Penn., Jacquelyn C. Gately and her husband, Charles, of Dennis, Mary E. Mahoney of Waltham, and Edward Skane and his wife, Bonnie, of Mashpee, eight grandchildren, one great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Skane was the son of the late Richard and Alma (Poehler) Skane, the father in law of the late Robert Mahoney, and the brother of the late Richard Skane, Alma Smith, Edward Skane, William Skane, Henry Skane, Albert Skane, Helen Lorman, Olga Henderson, and Olive Hopkinson. The Funeral will be held on Saturday at 8 am from The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street, (Rte. 20), Waltham followed by a Funeral Mass in Saint Mary’s Church, 133 School Street, Waltham at 9 am. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham. Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 4-8 pm. Memorial donations may be made to the Spina Bifida Association, 733 Turnpike Street #282, North Andover, MA 01845-6157 or to National Sclerosis Society, 101A First Avenue, Suite 6, Waltham, MA 02451-1115.
