Waltham – Mr. Robert H. St. Germain, of Waltham, died Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at his home. He was 74.
Bob was born on April 10,1940, the only child of the late Henry L. and Margaret (Schools) St. Germain, and had been a lifelong resident. He was a 1958 graduate of Waltham High School where he excelled in both football and baseball. After that he attended Newman Preparatory School in Boston and Brandeis University in Waltham. He also served with the Massachusetts Army National Guard.
On August 4, 1963 Bob married Mary Frances Wright in Saint Jude Church and the couple made their home in Waltham where they have been residents since. Bob also loved his summer home in West Yarmouth where he spent summers sitting by the ocean reading and watching the boats go by. During the New England winters he and Fran would escape to Naples, Florida.
Always an active man Bob played racquet ball, was a cyclist and loved to ski. He was a vociferous reader and loved going to the Centerville library. The love of his grandchildren played a huge role in his life and attending all of their activities was a priority for him.
His career was spent working in the insurance business. For twenty-five years he was an agent for Allstate Insurance where he won awards for excellence every year and was a multi-year winner of Allstate's Honor Ring. After that Bob became the co-owner of Metro West Insurance Agency until his retirement.
In 2006 he received a double lung transplant at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. He endured many complications but his positive attitude and the outstanding care of Drs. Fulhbrigge and Goldberg and his transplant team nurse, Kathleen Boyle, helped him overcome the odds.
In addition to his beloved wife of fifty-one years, Fran, he leaves his children, Robyn M. Spindler and her husband, Denis, of Framingham, Jill F. Snook and her husband, Harry, of Centerville and April W. Meade and her husband, Kevin, of Waltham; his grandchildren, Emily and Robert Brennan, Derek and Scott Spindler, Jillian and Harrison Snook, Lily and Lucas Meade; his brothers and sister-in-law, Joseph Greelish of Bedford and David and Beverly Wright of Waltham; his nephews and niece, Joseph and Ann Greelish of Connecticut and David Greelish of Watertown and several cousins including Edgar and Joan St. Germain of Weston.
Bob was also a brother-in-law of the late Dorothy Greelish.
Family and friends will honor and remember Bob's life by gathering to visit in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Tuesday morning, October 14th from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. before leaving in procession to Saint Jude Church, 147 Main Street, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Committal services will follow in Newton Cemetery Chapel.
