Waltham – Mr. Robert G. 'Bob' Trumbour, of Waltham, died Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at Meadow Green Nursing Home in Waltham. He was 77.
Bob was born in Newton on June 18, 1936, a son of the late J. Edmund and Marie L. (Cassidy) Trumbour and was a lifelong resident of Waltham. A graduate of Saint Mary's High School in Waltham he later earned a degree from Bentley College in Boston.
On October 5, 1957 Bob married Mary Jane R. Galvin in Saint Jude Church and the couple settled in Waltham where they raised their family of six children.
Until his retirement he worked as a food broker, beginning his career in 1956 with his father, Ed, at Barclay, Brown and Jones where he became vice-president of sales. Later he went to Pezrow Enterprises working as a senior vice-president and in 1985 left to start a new venture, Distribution Services of America, with his friend, David Petri, where he was president. He finished his career in the food brokerage business at the Johnson O'Hare Company of Billerica.
He was long active with charitable, food industry and sportsman's activities. In 1991 he was named Man of the Year by Boys and Girls Towns of Italy where he served as a director and was the president in 1989 of the New England Food Foundation, an organization formed in 1961 as the Nazareth Food Association to support the mission of the Nazareth Home for Children in Jamaica Plain. In the more than fifty years since its founding the New England Food Foundation has grown to be one of the largest suppliers in the nation to children in need, having donated countless tons of food to organizations throughout the region.
Bob was also a member of the New England Food Brokers Association, the Minuteman Sportsman's Club and Oakley Country Club in Belmont. In his spare time Bob could be found on the golf course, skeet range, hunting or fishing.
In addition of his wife of fifty-six years, Mary Jane, Bob leaves his children, Michelle Heatley of Boxborough, Stephanie Maggiani and her husband, David, of Marshfield, Lisa Sarno and her husband, Joe, of Ashland, Suzanne Cercone and her husband, Nick, of Waltham, Robert E. Trumbour and his wife, Darlene, of Rockport and Julie Casella and her husband, Joe, of Marlborough; his brother and sister, Neil Trumbour of Hudson and Patricia Giugno of Upton; 15 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was also the father of the late Matthew Trumbour and brother of the late Ted Trumbour.
Family and friends will honor and remember Bob's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Monday, December 2nd, from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Tuesday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
