Waltham – Mr. Robert L. Verhille, Sr., of Waltham, died on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 in his home following a period of declining health. He was 97.
Bob was born in Johnston, Rhode Island on July 13, 1923, the son of the late Louis and Hattie (Legere) Verhille. As a child he and his family moved to Waltham where he was raised and educated. After graduating from Waltham Trade School's carpentry program, he went on to serve with the United States Army in Europe during World War II.
After his return home from his time in the service he married Doris E. Jacobs. He was a talented and hardworking finish carpenter in Waltham and later in West Yarmouth where he built many beautiful homes on the Cape. While the pair lived in West Yarmouth, he developed a passion for sailing and spending time at Sea Gull Beach. Bob was also an avid sports fan and could always be found cheering on the Red Sox and Patriots.
Bob was a hard worker and a wonderful provider for his family. His greatest joy was spending time and creating happy memories with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Bob is reunited in Heaven with his wife, Doris, who predeceased him in 2003, and his sister, Doris Mikolai.
He leaves his children, Robert L. Verhille, Jr. of Waltham and Deborah A. Bishop (Richard) of Fort Myers, Florida; his grandchildren, Samantha Holleran (Christopher) and Jill Shaheen (Richard); and his great-grandchildren, James, Robert, Skylar, Grayson, and Blake. Bob also leaves many nieces, nephews and their families.
Family and friends will honor and remember Bob's life by gathering to visit in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Monday, June 7th from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. before leaving in procession to Saint Mary's Church, 133 School Street, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
