Robert E. Young, Sr.

Robert E. Young was born in Brooklyn, New York on October 31, 1932 the only son of the late William V. and Mary (Joseph) Young. He moved with his family to Auburn, MA just prior to his senior year, graduated from Auburn High School and later earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University of New Hampshire.  He served honorably in the United States Army.

He married Barbara A. Morano on October 9, 1954, in her parish church of Saint Stephen’s on Grafton Hill in Worcester. An only child, Bob married into a large Italian family who he was convinced were related to everyone in the Worcester area. He loved being a part of Barbara’s vast and deeply connected clan ... both immediate and extended. Shrewsbury has been home for them for many years.

For over twenty years Bob worked as a career counselor for the City of Worcester. He was instrumental in helping countless young students find their correct path – often after their recognizing they’d been on the wrong one for a little bit. Previously he worked as a plumbing supply salesman for Sexauer Corporation based in White Plains, New York.

Bob loved the outdoors. He loved hiking, fishing and range shooting with any of his many firearms – several of which were collectibles – an activity he especially enjoyed with his son, Jimmy.

In addition to his wife of 69 years, Barbara, he leaves his sons, Robert E. Young, Jr. (Ruth Duquette) and James Young, all of Shrewsbury. He was predeceased by his infant son, William ‘Billy’ Young (1963); he is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
