Roland A. Dion

Waltham – Mr. Roland A. Dion, of Waltham, died Tuesday, July 25, 2006 while vacationing in Harwich. He was 84. Born in Waltham, a son of the late Emile and Florence (Roberts) Dion, he was a lifelong resident. Rollie was a graduate of Waltham High School and served with the United States Coast Guard from 1942 to 1946. In 1951 he began a thirty-two year career as a firefighter with the Waltham Fire Department, retiring as a Lieutenant in 1983. Rollie was a member of the International Association of Fire Fighters, Local 866 and the Professional Fire Fighters of Massachusetts. The husband of the late Colleen A. (Palumbo) Dion, he leaves his children, Roland A. Dion, Jr. and his wife, Rosemary, of Norwood, Cheryl A. Marcou and her husband, Richard, of Waltham and Scott J. Dion of Waltham; his grandchildren, Nicole and Andrew Dion and Shannon, Justin and Whitney Marcou; two brothers, Alfred Dion of Waltham and Eli Dion of Florida and many nieces and nephews. He was also the father of the late Donald N. Dion and a brother of the late William and Robert Dion and Marie Boisvert. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral at 8 a.m. Saturday from The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham followed by a Funeral Mass in Saint Jude Church, 147 Main Street, Waltham at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham. Visiting hours are Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
