Mr. Ronald F. Murphy, of Natick, formerly a lifelong Watertown resident, died Tuesday, October 23, 2018 in Leonard Morse Hospital in Natick. He was 77.
Ronald was born January 22, 1941 in Watertown a son of the late George E. and Virginia F. (MacDougall) Murphy. Raised and educated in Watertown he honorably served in the United States Army.
Ron worked over 40 years in delivery for Jet Transportation Co. in Watertown. Upon retirement he then worked part-time for Cass Flowers on Mt. Auburn Street in Watertown as a delivery person.
An avid New England sports fan he followed all our much loved sports teams faithfully and from an early age he was a Michigan State University football fan. Ron had a knack and talent for gardening and would happily share his tomatoes with family and friends. He enjoyed running and participating in local road races. In 2014 he transitioned to Mary Ann Morse Healthcare Center in Natick where he was a much loved resident and champion Wii player in bowling.
He leaves his siblings, John W. Murphy (Diane) of Ashland, Lorain M. Ross (Douglas) of Jefferson, Michelle C. Murphy of Maynard and Michael G. Murphy (Bobbie) of Glen Allen, Virginia; his nieces and nephews, Rachel Murphy, Matthew and Jeremy Ross, Christopher Penfield (Amanda), William and Maxwell Penfield and Michael Murphy; two great-nieces Parker Penfield and Aubrey Ross.
Family and friends will honor and remember Ronald's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Thursday, October 25th from 4 to 8 p.m. and again on Friday morning when his funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow in Ridgelawn Cemetery, Watertown.
