Rosaria "Rose" Marie Taranto, born November 21, 1917, passed away peacefully at her home in Jamestown, Rhode Island on Sunday, October 8, 2017. She was 99.
Rose was born and raised in Waltham, the daughter of the late Salvatore and Antonina (Terrasi) Buscemi. Rose was a loving and supportive wife and mother who was devoted to her family. For many years she was a talented seamstress in her husband, Gaetano 'Tom' Taranto's, shoe repair and tailor shop in Framingham and until her last years continued to be a creative homemaker. She was a member of the Framingham Lioness Club, the Filiduci St. Stephen Society and the Aragona Society. A long time attendee of St. Bridget Church in Framingham, she was at her death, the oldest member of St. Mark Church in Jamestown, Rhode Island.
She was the beloved wife of the late Gaetano "Tom" Taranto and is survived by her children, Thomas Taranto and his wife Diane McCormack of Dorchester, Theodore Taranto and his wife, Margaret Kent of Plympton and Maria Taranto Mahon of Jamestown, Rhode Island and her late husband, John Curtis Mahon; her sister, Gertrude Sotile of Sudbury; three grandchildren and generations of nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her grandson, Ethan Taranto-Kent and her siblings, Raymond Buscemi, Anthony Buscemi, Frances Santangelo and Regina Nardone.
Family and friends will honor and remember Rose's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Wednesday, October 18th from 8:30 - 9:30 a.m before leaving in procession to Sacred Heart Church, 311 River Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Our Lady of Fatima Shrine, 101 Summer Street, Holliston, MA 01746.
