Rosario "Ross" Giuliano

Waltham - Mr. Rosario "Ross" Giuliano, of Waltham, died Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at Saint Elizabeth's Hospital in Brighton following a period of declining health. He was 95.

Ross was born in Waltham on September 4, 1923, the beloved son of the late Angelo and Mary (Castellana) Giuliano, and had been a lifelong resident. He was a graduate of Waltham High School and during World War II served with the United States Army where his linguistic skills were put to use as an interpreter.

After the war Ross graduated from Boston University and then taught for a few years at the University of Wisconsin. He came home to Waltham to care for his mother following his father's death.

Ross went to work as a technical writer for the Raytheon Company where he worked for over thirty-five years. He was also a longtime volunteer at Waltham Hospital where he was often called upon to be an interpreter in various hospital departments. Latin was the foundation of his language skills and Ross was conversant in the Sicilian dialect of Italian, French and Spanish.

He also volunteered at the Waltham Public Library and at the Stanley Senior Center.

Ross was a lifelong fan of the Red Sox and Patriots and was an experienced world traveler. The great cities of Europe were his favorite destinations. His nieces and nephews will long remember Ross as a warm, loving, kind and generous uncle who took a lifelong interest in their lives.

He leaves his sister, Mary Elliott of Norfolk, Virginia; many nieces, nephews and their families, including his caregiver, Marie Davenport Bernstein, of Waltham and many dear friends including Santo and Theresa Fanara of Waltham. He was the brother of the late Angelina Gianino, Rosalie DiSalvatore, Josephine Gorgone and Rose Davenport.

Family and friends will honor and remember Ross's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Thursday, December 20th from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 10 a.m. on Friday morning before leaving in procession to Sacred Heart Church, 311 River Street, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
