Waltham – Mrs. Rose M. (Farina) Favre, of Waltham, died Sunday, March 27, 2011 in her home surrounded by her husband and three sons after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 83.

Rose was born in Newton on November 25, 1927, a daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Teccia) Farina. She grew up in Newton’s Nonantum neighborhood and graduated from Newton High School. She married Edward G. Favre on April 23, 1950 in Our Lady Help of Christians Church. She worked nights at Newton-Waltham Bank in order to help provide her children with college educations and had also worked in the bookkeeping department of Little, Brown Book Publishing Company in Waltham. She was a longtime parishioner of Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church and an active member of the Waltham Senior Center. She loved spending her summers in Falmouth and her winter vacations in Venice, Florida, but mostly she enjoyed being Nana to her grandchildren whom she affectionately referred to as her ‘three babies’.

She leaves her beloved husband of more than sixty years, Edward G. Favre of Waltham; her children Edward A. Favre and his wife, Sandy, of Marlborough, David A. Favre and his wife, Saipin, of Shrewsbury and Michael A. Favre and his partner, Bruce, of Wells, Maine; her grandchildren, Daniel, David and Lisa; her sister Sylvia Clark of Needham and many nieces and nephews.

Rose was also the mother of the late Mary M. Favre and was a sister of the late Jeremiah ‘Jerry’ Farina, Philip Farina, Alfred Farina, Msgr. Michael Farina and Caroline E. ‘Carly’ Farina.

Family and friends will honor and remember Rose’s life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Thursday, March 31st from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 10:30 a.m. on Friday morning in Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
