Framingham – Mrs. Rose M. (Giardina) Umina, of Framingham, formerly of Newton and Waltham, died Tuesday, March 24, 2015 in Saint Patrick's Manor, Framingham. She was 87.
Rose was born in Waltham on June 19, 1927, a daughter of the late Gaetano and Maria (Defina) Giardina. She was raised in Waltham and graduated from Waltham High School. She and her family moved to Newton more than fifty years ago where she lived for most of her life. She was a terrific homemaker and cook, dancer, swimmer, and with her late husband, a world traveler.
The wife of the late Steven P. Umina, she leaves her children, John T. Umina and his wife, Catherine, of Belmont, Joan M. Chalikis and her husband, George, of Waltham, Steven Umina and his wife, Nancy, of Newton Centre and Lisa D. Umina of Hudson; her goddaughter, Dona Butera-Marrazzo and her husband, James, of Hudson; her brother and sister, Joseph "Sonny" Giardina of Bonita Springs, Florida and Linda Brooks of Federal Way, Washington; thirteen grandchildren, twenty one great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Rose was also a sister of the late Stephen Giardina.
Family and friends will honor and remember Rose's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Sunday, March 29th, from 2 to 6 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Monday morning before leaving in procession to Sacred Heart Church, 311 River Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
