Weston – Mr. Russell M. Hills, Sr., of Weston, died Sunday, October 19, 2008 in Newton- Wellesley Hospital. He was 91. Born and raised in Waltham, a son of the late Herbert A. and Minnie I. (Moore) Hills, Russ moved to Weston in 1958. Until his retirement six years ago, he was the proprietor of Nickerson & Hills Painting and Decorating Company on Main Street in Waltham, a company he co-founded in August, 1946 and run by his son today. He was a charter member of the Waltham Jaycees in 1949 and a member of the Waltham Rotary Club since 1951. He was also a member of the Masons, Monitor Lodge and Triad Lodge A.F. & A.M., a board member and assistant scout master at Christ Church on Main Street in Waltham, and a longtime corporator and member of the Board of Trustees of Waltham Hospital. He was an avid outdoorsman and craftsman and enjoyed gardening, wood-working, bird watching, motorcycle riding, fishing, canoeing, photography and bee-keeping. During World War II, Russ served with the United States Army. He leaves his wife of seventy years, Virginia (Biggi) Hills; his children, Joanne C. 'Jody' Hills of Waltham, Linda H. Brown and her husband, Stanley A., Ginger Lopez and her husband, John A., all of Acton, and Russell M. 'Rusty' Hills, Jr., and his wife, Randy, of Wayland; 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was a brother of the late Mabel E. Hills, Doris L. Swanton, and Frank H. Hills. Visiting hours for Russ will be held on Sunday, October 26, from 2 to 4 p.m. in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham followed by a funeral service in the funeral home at 4 p.m. Burial will be private.
