Ruth Glidden

Waltham – Mrs. Ruth (Greenway) Glidden of Waltham died suddenly October 5, 2006 at Maristhill Nursing Home in Waltham. She was 84. Mrs. Glidden was the wife of the late Edward L. Glidden Born and raised in Waltham, a daughter of the late Thomas and Mildred (Moulton) Greenway, she was a 1939 graduate of Waltham High School and a member of Kappa Phi Sorority. She was a devoted mother and happily married for twenty-eight years until the loss of her beloved husband in 1970. Mrs. Glidden was one of the original six crossing guards appointed by the City of Waltham in 1956 and dedicated herself to the children of Waltham at several locations until 1976. Prior to that she worked at the Waltham Watch Factory. Following her service to the City of Waltham she worked as a receptionist for Zenith products in West Newton and until her retirement, she worked at Litton-Itek Corporation in Lexington in communications. She loved her grandchildren, music, dining out with relatives and friends, sitting in her yard with close friends and family, enjoying the bird feeders and houses built by her son Steven. She leaves her son Edward T. Glidden of Waltham; her daughter, Susan Carter of Oregon; her grandchildren, Tammy Sterba of Kansas, Todd Stevenson of Oregon, Joshua Carter of Washington State, Naomi and Leah Carter of Oregon, Pamela Wild of Florida, Edward C. Glidden and Shannon Glidden both of New Hampshire; nine great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Delilah ‘Billy’ Greenway of Twin Falls, Idaho, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins throughout the United States. She is predeceased by her son Steven Glidden; one brother, Herbert Greenway; and two sisters, Mildred Cook and Eleanor Petrulavage. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 12 p.m. in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte.20), Waltham. Burial will be in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 11 a.m. to 12 Noon. Memorial donations may be made to Make-a-Wish Foundation, 295 Devonshire Street, Fourth Floor, Boston, MA 02110.
