Ruth Higley

Weston - Ruth (Weldon)(Foster) Higley died peacefully on Sunday, January 6, 2008 at Sunrise of Weston after a lengthy illness. She was 92. Born in Dorchester, Mrs. Higley was the daughter of the late May (Wood) and John Weldon. The family later moved to Milton, and in 1933 Mrs. Higley graduated from Milton High school. In 1935, she graduated from the Katherine Gibbs School in Boston. Following graduation, she worked as a secretary at Braman Dow and Company in Boston where she met her first husband, Asa B. Foster, Sr. The couple moved to Weston in December 1941, just before Pearl Harbor Day. Mrs. Higley enjoyed being a homemaker and volunteered for various projects in which her children, Nancy and Asa Foster, were involved. She was active in the Weston Methodist Church, enjoyed playing bridge, painting, gardening, dancing, cooking and entertaining. In her later years, she participated in activities with the Weston Council on Aging. After the death of her first husband, Asa, in 1958, Mrs. Higley married Chester Higley in 1963. They lived in Weston, and for 20 years, spent winters in Del Ray Beach, Florida. Mrs. Higley leaves her son, Asa B. Foster and his wife, Susan, of Wayland, her daughter, Nancy Ruth Foster of Denver, Colorado; her step-children, Russell Higley, and his wife, Judy, of Cambridge, and Sally Higley Yarworth and her husband, George, of Walnut Creek, California; her grandchildren, Asa B. Foster III of Wayland, Jonathan Higley of Cambridge, Mark Higley of Los Angeles, California, Suzanne Higley of South Boston, Laurie Pearson of Watertown, Leigh Kauffman of Concord, California; one brother, John Weldon and his wife, Muriel, and her nephew, Jay Weldon all of Reading; her nieces, Joyce Feeney and Jan Egan both of South Dennis; four great-grandchildren; two grand-nieces, one grand-nephew and many cousins. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Ruth’s Funeral Service on Wednesday January 9, 2008 at 11 a.m. in the Weston Methodist Church, 377 North Avenue, Weston. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Weston Methodist Church, 377 North Avnue, Weston, MA 02493 or to the Hospice of the Good Shepherd, 2042 Beacon Street, Newton, MA 02468.
