Ruth Lisa (Gans) Zweig

Mrs. Ruth Lisa (Gans) Zweig, of Newton, formerly of Waltham, died Sunday, February 16, 2020 in Evans Park Assisted Living in Newton. She was 100 year old.

Ruth was born on September 19, 1919 in Mannheim, Germany a daughter of the late Maurice and Bella (Schuster) Gans. Raised in Germany, she moved to Italy in 1938 and was married to Carlo Ghioldi. Widowed at a young age in 1943, she fled the Holocaust by climbing through the Alps to Switzerland with her son, Emilio. They moved to the United States and initially lived in Brighton. She then married Harry H. Zweig and later moved to Waltham, where she lived for the next 55 years.

Always family oriented, she had a quick wit and a zest for life. She was easy to befriend and will be remembered as social, loving and kind. 

In addition to her husbands, Carlo and Harry, she is predeceased by her only sibling, Werner Gans.

She leaves her children, Emilio Ghioldi (Wanda) of Waltham and Vivian Mackey (John) of Woburn and Naples, Florida; her grandchildren, Gina Ghioldi-Varley (Patrick) of Burlington, Diane Ghioldi Ezzell of Pomphret, Connecticut, David Mackey (Katy Goldman) of Concord and Rochelle Alley (Robb) of Hermosa Beach, California; her great-grandchildren, Scott and Sarah Varley, Julie, Matthew and Cameron Ezell, Theo Mackey, James and Alex Alley; nieces & nephews.

Funeral services will be private. Burial will be in Sons of Abraham Cemetery, West Roxbury.
