Sally E. Green, of Waltham, passed away on November 3, 2023, at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. She was 80.
Born in Waltham on October 19, 1943, Sally was the daughter of the late Edward and Doris (Blanchard) Putnam. She was raised and educated in Waltham and graduated from Waltham High School in 1961. On September 28, 1974, she married the love of her life, Russell S. Green, with whom she shared forty-nine cherished years.
During her career as a home health aide, Sally dedicated herself to providing care and assistance to others at Waltham Hospital, Newton Wellesley Hospital, and Mount Auburn Hospital. She formed meaningful connections with the patients and families she assisted, and her compassion was felt deeply by those she helped. Even years later, families continued to send her holiday cards as a token of their appreciation.
Some of Sally's happiest memories were made during her summer vacations in York, Maine. She would spend these vacations with her mother, aunt, and sister. Later in life, she and Russell loved spending their summers with their children on Cape Cod in North Falmouth. They enjoyed attending the Barnstable Fair and spending their days on the beach.
Sally had a passion for creating one-of-a-kind crafts and knitting. When asked to use her skills to help children at Children's Hospital, she gladly invested two years knitting hundreds of hats filled with love. Sally also shared her husband's passion for racing and accompanied him to his local races and traveled to Loudon together to attend the NASCAR races at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
A beloved wife and a wonderful mother, Sally always made it a priority to take care of everyone around her and was just a phone call away. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
In addition to her husband Russell S. Green, she leaves her children Dale Fraser (Diana) of Hudson, Sindia Swiderski of Mansfield, John “Jay” Fraser (Cindy) of Claremont, New Hampshire, and Rebecca Reed (Thomas) of Waltham; her grandchildren, Brendan Fraser (Chris McDonald), Matthew Fraser (Nicole Rousseau), Josh Fraser (Lexi Rogers), Braden Fraser, Erik Swiderski (Patricia Neal), Andrew Swiderski (Jen); her great-grandchildren Aasjah, Aarik, Benjamin and Samuel and her sister Cynthia Rich of Tyngsboro.
Family and friends will honor and remember Sally’s life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Thursday, November 9th from 4 to 7 p.m. and again Friday morning where her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Puritan Lawn Cemetery in Peabody.
