Mr. Salvatore C. 'Sal' Arena, of Waltham, died Sunday, July 20, 2008 in Newton – Wellesley Hospital. He was 76. Born in Cambridge, on September 3, 1931, a son of the late Giuseppe and Concetta (Donato) Arena he was a lifelong Waltham resident. He graduated from Cambridge Rindge and Latin High School in Cambridge. At the age of 16 he enrolled at and later graduated from the former New England College of Pharmacy in Boston, now affiliated with Northeastern University. Until his retirement in April 1994, Mr. Arena was a pharmacist for The Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston for nearly 20 years. Previously, he owned and operated the former Arena Pharmacy on Belmont Street in Watertown. His career in pharmacy began as a pharmaceutical representative for the Upjohn Company. He is predeceased by his son, Joseph J. 'Jay' Arena who died April 20, 2008 and his brothers, Joseph and John Arena. He leaves his wife of 57 years, Catherine A. (Leavitt) Arena; his daughters, Cecilia Fournier and her husband, Barry, of Burlington, Susan Arena of Jupiter, Florida, Mary-Jo Brady and her husband, Robert, of Laconia, New Hampshire; his siblings, Lena Mazzola of Woburn, Anthony Arena of Brighton, George Arena of Arlington. He is also survived by six grandchildren and many nieces & nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral at 9 a.m. Thursday from The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham, followed by a Funeral Mass in Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham at 10 a.m. Burial will be private. Visiting hours Wednesday 4 - 8 p.m.
