Salvatore A. Vinciullo

Waltham – Mr. Salvatore A. Vinciullo, of Waltham, died Friday, January 19, 2018 at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. He was 101.

Born and raised in Waltham, he attended Waltham High School and was a graduate of the Massachusetts National Guard Military Academy. He was commissioned a Second Lieutenant and assigned to Waltham's Company F, 182nd Infantry Regiment. Upon the outbreak of World War II, he spent forty-two months in the South Pacific in various positions of command and staff, and was awarded the Silver Star and the Purple Heart. Following the end of hostilities, he commanded U.S. Troops in the demilitarization of the Japanese homeland. Back home, he served as the Deputy Commander of the 302nd Battle Group, 94th Reserve Infantry Division, and as Regimental Executive Officer prior to retirement.

From 1946 until 1951, Mr. Vinciullo served as a training officer for the Rehabilitation Department of the Veterans Administration in Boston, MA. He supervised the academic and on-the-job training of disabled veterans with a variety of physical and mental disabilities.

During 1951 and 1952, he served the City of Waltham as Chairman of the Board of Assessors. He proposed a postwar real estate reevaluation program later implemented by the City Council.

In 1953, Mr. Vinciullo organized the real estate firm of Salvatore A. Vinciullo, Inc., specializing in real estate brokerage and appraising. A year later, he organized an insurance corporation.

Mr. Vinciullo served as the New England Governor of the American Society of Appraisers, a Director of the Waltham Chamber of Commerce and as their Traffic Committee Chairman, a Director of the Waltham Boys Club, a Member of the Waltham Hospital, and as Chairman of the Sacred Heart Parish Memorial Committee. He was a past president of the Sacred Heart Church Holy Name Society, the Reserve Officers' Association, Paul Revere Chapter, the Massachusetts Military Academy Alumni, the Waltham Rotary Club and Waltham Realtors' Council K. Mr. Vinciullo also was a past commander of The Waltham Disabled American Veterans Chapter and a junior vice commander of the Massachusetts Disabled American Veterans.

Mr. Vinciullo was a donor and trustee of The Michael and Vincenza Vinciullo Charitable Foundation and the Daniel F. and Margaret (Macadam) Loughry Charitable Foundation. Both Foundations contribute to local, state and national charitable agencies.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marguerite M. (Loughry) Vinciullo.

He was the son of the late Michael and Vincenza Vinciullo, and brother of the late Domenica and Rosalina, and Graziano, Vincenzo and Michael.

He is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will honor and remember Sal's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Thursday, March 1st from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Friday morning, March 2nd, before leaving in procession to Sacred Heart Church, 311 River Street, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial with military honors will be in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
