Groton – Mr. Salve J. Casella of Groton, formerly of Waltham died at Naples Community Hospital, Naples, Florida. He was 83.
Born in Waltham, a son of the late Carmelo and Sara (Allia) Casella, he was a lifelong resident before moving to Groton last year. Until his retirement he worked as a land developer and was a former owner of Casella Bros. Farm on Winter Street in Waltham. During World War II he served with the U.S. Army Air Corps.
Mr. Casella leaves his wife, Emily F. (Vacarella) Casella; his children, Carol Justice and her husband Thomas of Dunstable, Janice Shelton and her husband Curtis of Groton, Christine Saulnier and her husband Donald of Duxbury and John Casella of Waltham; his grandchildren, Natalie, Rebecca and Caroline Shelton and Eric and Abigail Saulnier; two brothers, James Casella of Lexington and Richard Casella of Moultonboro, NH and many nieces and nephews.
He was also a brother of the late Rose Pagliazzo, Joseph Casella, Grace Lord, Frances Gelinas, Charles Casella and Constance Mantenuto.
Visiting hours will be held Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass at 10 a.m. Saturday in Sacred Heart Church, 311 River Street, Waltham.
