Sandra L. Scafidi joined her husband Anthony R. (Tony) in eternal life, after nine short months apart, on Tuesday, December 8, 2020. She was 77.
Born in Waltham on April 6, 1943 Sandie (spelled with an "ie"), was the daughter of the late Salvatore and Bettie (Fisher) Collura.
Sandie was a graduate of Rosary Academy in Watertown (Class of 1961). She was a member of the Rosary Academy Board of Directors, remaining in touch with her cherished classmates and organizing their class reunions throughout the years.
On September 14, 1963, she was married to Tony Scafidi in Saint Mary's Church, Waltham, and the couple started their family in their hometown before relocating to Sudbury in 1973. They remained in Sudbury for 35 years, before moving to Northborough in 2009.
Sandie loved her time in Sudbury and remained an integral part of the community even after her four boys were grown. She was involved with the Lincoln-Sudbury High School Boosters Club and was a longtime member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish, where she led the Folk Mass liturgies. She was proud to be honored as the 1992-1993 Citizen of the Year by the Sudbury Chamber of Commerce. Over the years, Sandie became a Sudbury icon; someone who truly helped make Sudbury a better community in which to live.
Having always believed that photography was the greatest way to capture life's moments, her dedication to her four boys and their involvement in Sudbury sports led her to a lifelong passion. This passion turned into a career when Sandie opened her own photography business which she operated for more than thirty years.
Her photography career began with short, youth sport recaps and write-ups for the Sudbury Town Crier. These weekly updates, which included her sports action photos, led the newspaper to hire her for other local events and her photography business soon expanded to religious events, family occasions and real estate. Sandie was also the official sports photographer for Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School, shooting all team pictures and action photos during games. During the 1980s and early 90s, many L-S athletes had poster-sized photos of themselves hanging in their rooms, all of which were shots captured by Sandie Scafidi. There are hundreds of families thankful that she captured their memories today.
Sandie will be remembered as a woman who adored her four sons and considered her grandchildren, who called her "Nannie", her greatest blessings. Her love of her family and her dearest friends, great sense of humor, sharp wit, selflessness, and her innate ability to make others feel special, will be sorely missed.
She leaves behind her sons, Anthony (Tony) Scafidi (Laurie Desmond) of Litchfield, New Hampshire, Edward (Ted) Scafidi (Kim Porcello) of Roslindale, Andrew (Andy) Scafidi (Julie Buxton) of Concord, and Matthew (Matt) Scafidi (Alicia Radl) of Westwood; her grandchildren, Lexie, Sophie, Jake, Francesca, Maddie, Nico, Cole, Ryan, Liliana, Iyla, and Maci; her siblings, Linda Collura (David Keefe) of Waltham, Robert Collura of Eustis, Florida, Michael Collura (Deborah Durgin) of North Andover; sister in-law of Jeannette Scafidi of Waltham and Bernard Scafidi (Pat Jasset) of Westminster; also survived by dozens of nieces & nephews and their families.
Out of an abundance of love and caution for family and friends, services for Sandie will be private.
