Waltham – Mr. Scott D. Raines, of Waltham, died Thursday, July 23, 2015 at York Hospital in York, Maine. He turned 60 on Monday.
He enjoyed the challenge found in WordFind books, an occasional cigar, the Red Sox and Patriots and a good meal. The past couple of years Scott faced some tough health challenges but was able to face them with the daily help of his wife Sue and their children. He wanted to spend his birthday in his beloved Maine and so Sue made that happen. Stricken while on their visit he was taken to York Hospital where his family will be eternally grateful for the kind, gentle and terrific care that he, and they, received.
Scott was born in Waltham on July 20, 1955, a son of the late Addison and Phyllis (Sherman) Raines, and had been a lifelong resident. He was a graduate of Waltham High School.
Until illness forced his retirement he worked as a truck driver for more than twenty-five years for Waltham Lumber. For more than forty years Scott was a member of the Waltham Civil Defense and a firefighter with the Waltham Auxiliary Fire Department.
He leaves his wife Suzanne M. (Hurst) Raines; his children, Derek M. Raines and his wife, Erin, of Waltham, Katherine A. Raines and her husband, Barry McArdle, of Watertown and Bryce W. Raines of Waltham; his grandchildren, Connor McArdle and Jackson and Violet Raines, his sisters and brother, Linda Raines of South Carolina, Addison "Buddy" Raines and his wife, Jackie, and Bonnie Raines, all of Waltham and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Scott's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Monday, July 27th from 4 to 8 p.m.
