Shirley A. (Garber) Castagno of Woburn, passed away on January 27, 2025, at home after a brief illness. She was 83 years old.
Born in Belmont on September 14, 1941, Shirley was the daughter of the late Richard Garber and Theresa (Bruzzese) Yerardi. She was raised in Waltham and graduated from Waltham High School.
Shirley dedicated 40 years of her life as a compassionate and dedicated physical therapist at the Fernald School in Waltham, specializing in the care for developmentally disabled patients; a career that provided her great joy and fulfillment.
Shirley was the beloved wife and best friend to her husband of 65 years, Alphonse Castagno. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, reading, watching old movies, and creating cherished memories on vacations with her family and long-time friends.
Shirley leaves her husband, Alphonse Castagno, of Woburn, along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. She was also the sister of the late Richard Garber and Robert Garber. She will be dearly missed by her husband, family and friends.
Family and friends will honor and remember Shirley’s life by gathering for a time of visitation at The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street, (Rte. 20) Waltham on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, starting at 11 AM, with her funeral service beginning at 12 Noon. Burial will be held privately at a later date.
