Waltham – Mrs. Shirley M. (Aucoin) Crawford, of Waltham, died Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at CareOne at Newton. She was 87.
Shirley was born in Boston, a daughter of the late Levi and Sophie (Doucet) Aucoin, and had been a lifelong Waltham resident. Afflicted with cerebral palsy, Shirley was surrounded by the love, care, affection and encouragement of her parents and brothers. She attended Saint Pierre's School before transferring to and graduating from, the Industrial School in Boston, the precursor to the Cotting School in Lexington.
With determination and effort Shirley worked for more than twenty years at Waltham Hospital where she made many lifelong friends. At an Industrial School reunion she met fellow graduate Albert Crawford and the pair later married. The couple enjoyed more than twenty-five years together before Al's death in February, 2005.
She leaves her brother, Geoffrey Aucoin of Waltham; her sisters and brother-in-law, Helen Aucoin of Framingham, Jacqueline Aucoin of Santa Fe, New Mexico and Andrew Sarno of Marstons Mills and several nieces, nephews, cousins and their families.
Shirley was also the sister of the late George, John and William Aucoin.
Family and friends will honor and remember Shirley's life by gathering for calling hours on Monday, March 25th, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street, (Rte. 20), Waltham and again Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. before leaving in procession to Saint Julia's Church, 374 Boston Post Road, Weston, where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
