Falmouth - Shirley C. (Alexander) McAleer Zebergs, died Saturday, March 29, 2025 in Royal Falmouth Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. She was 97.
Shirley C. Alexander was born May 8, 1927 in Manhattan, New York a daughter of the late William A. and Mildred (Arsenault) Alexander. Raised in New York City she graduated from Cathedral High School. She worked many years as an administrative assistant for Standard Oil Company.
Throughout her life she lived in New York, Connecticut, Waltham and eventually made Cape Cod her home in retirement. Blessed to have loved twice she was predeceased by her husbands, Francis ‘Frank’ McAleer and later Harijs ‘Harry’ Zebergs.
Retirement afforded Shirley time to volunteer reading and recording audio books for the blind and assisted in the classroom for elementary school children. She enjoyed travelling and always welcomed the company of family and friends. And in her later years she was most appreciative of the many who made efforts to remain in contact with her.
Shirley was also predeceased by her brother, Robert Alexander.
She leaves a nephew, Kevin Alexander of New York; her sister-in-law, Kathy Alexander of New Jersey and many caring relatives from her parents as well as her McAleer and Zebergs families.
Family and friends will honor and remember Shirley’s life by gathering for a Morning Wake in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham, on Friday, April 4th from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham where her funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery.
