Simon Bedigian

Waltham – Mr. Simon Bedigian, of Waltham, died Wednesday, May 6, 2015 in Newton-Wellesley Hospital. He was 82.

Simon was born in Newton on March 30, 1933, a son of the late Levon and Altoon (Maghakian) Bedigian. After high school he joined the United States Marine Corps and participated in some of the heaviest fighting of the Korean War. He served as a sergeant in charge of a machine gun squad and was wounded in action on August 9, 1952. Among other decorations Simon was awarded the Purple Heart.

Simon was the president of Olympic Systems Corporation in Winchester, a company he founded in 1983. Prior to that he had worked for twenty years at the Millipore Corporation in Bedford. He was a life member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Lodge No. 2204 in Lexington and was a member of the Joseph F. Hill American Legion Post No. 156 in Waltham.

The husband of the late Jacquelyn A. (Black) Bedigian, he leaves his daughter, Donna G. Putney and her husband, James, of Burlington; his grandchildren, Brendan Putney, Ryan Putney, and Jennifer Foley; his brother, Jack Bedigian of Cape Cod; his sisters, Lucy Bedigian and Pauline Lukosus, both of Waltham and his longtime companion, Yvonne Hanley of Waltham and her family.

Simon was also the father of the late William S. Bedigian and a brother of the late Tunney Bedigian and Agnes Tomczyk.

Family and friends will honor and remember Simon's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Monday, May 11th from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 10 a.m. on Tuesday morning before leaving in procession to the Armenian Memorial Church, 32 Bigelow Avenue, Watertown where his funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
