Stella S. Bates

Waltham – Mrs. Stella S. (Aucoin) Bates, of Waltham, died Saturday, August 11, 2007 in the Leland Home, Waltham. She was 87. Her husband, James H. Bates, Jr., died October 2, 1988. She leaves two daughters, Karen M. Ray of Arlington and Barbara E. St. Amand and her husband, Robert, of Houstan, Texas; a brother, Albert Aucoin of Waltham and one sister, Yvonne Kenney of Billerica; eighteen grandchildren, one great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews. Stella was predeceased by her siblings, Edmund and Wilfred Aucoin, Alma LaFond, Jeanette Cruickshank, Gertrude Gumbert and Bernadette Frechette. Stella was born November 2, 1920 in Waltham, a daughter of the late Amadee and Mary (Aucoin) Aucoin and had lived in Waltham all of her life. Stella was a graduate of Saint Pierre's School and Saint Mary's High School in Waltham. She was a parishioner at Saint Jude’s Church and an active member and volunteer of The Espousal Retreat House and Conference Center in Waltham. The Funeral will be held Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. from the Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte.20), Waltham followed by a Funeral Mass in Saint Jude’s Church, 147 Main Street, Waltham at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
