Stella A. Urban

Mrs. Stella A. ( Shurkus ) Urban of Watertown, died Monday, December 19, 2011, in Mount Auburn Hospital. She was 88.

Mrs. Urban was born in Nashua, New Hampshire on May 13, 1923 a daughter of the late Anthony and Charlotte (Kodis) Shurkus.

She was a graduate of Nashua High School and moved to Watertown in 1947. Stella worked at the Raytheon Company and, until her retirement at age 62, she worked at Barry Controls in Watertown.

Stella was an avid gardener who loved working in the yard.

She was the wife of the late Paul F. Urban and the sister of the late Peter Shurkus and Charlotte Burtt.

Stella is survived by her children, Paul F. Urban, Jr. of Waltham and Robert M. Urban and his wife, Janice, of Derry, NH; her grandchildren, Kathryn P. Andrus and her husband, Michael, of Worcester and Matthew R. Urban of Pittsfield.

Family and friends will honor and remember Stella's life by gathering for her calling hours in the Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street, (Rte. 20), Waltham on Thursday from 6-8 pm and again on Friday at 8 am before leaving in procession to Saint Patrick's Church, 212 Main Street, Watertown where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 am. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham. Memorial donations may be made to the Watertown Senior Center, 31 Marshall Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
