Waltham – Stephen J. Cusano was one of those all-around good guys . . . and that is how he'll forever be remembered.
His three year fight with lymphoma came to its end on Wednesday morning, January 6, 2016 in Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston while surrounded by the love of his family. He was 51.
Stephen was born August 19, 1964 in Waltham, a son of Marjorie (Malloy) and the late Angelo 'Sonny' Cusano. Raised and educated in Waltham he graduated from Waltham High School with the class of 1982. While in school he played both football and basketball. On June 7, 1987 he married his high school sweetheart, Stacie A. Antico, in Saint Mary's Church. The couple remained lifelong Waltham residents where they raised their two sons. For all of his life he worked in irrigation and landscape.
He was happiest when manning the grill, mixing up his famous cocktails, and watching his favorite sports teams with family and friends. He was the perfect host and the go-to guy whenever something was needed. He knew sports inside and out and worked as a high school football referee throughout Massachusetts. Steve had a contagious sense of humor and great wit.
The three virtues in life are faith, hope and love . . . the greatest of them being love. Stephen knew love and his legacy lives on in the lives of his wife of twenty-eight years, Stacie; his sons, Stephen J. Cusano and his fiancé, Jessica Aiello, of Waltham and Michael A. Cusano and his girlfriend, Sunny Pacilio, of Cheshire, Connecticut; his mother, Marjorie (Malloy) Gowing and her husband, Edwin 'Ted' Gowing of Winter Haven, Florida; his brothers, Frankie Cusano of Acton, Allen Cusano and his wife, Marianne, of Hampton, New Hampshire, Thomas Cusano and his wife, Jacqueline, of Raymond, New Hampshire, Paul Cusano and his wife, Lori of Epping, New Hampshire and sister, Christine (Cusano) Prina of Nottingham, New Hampshire; his father-in-law, Anthony J. 'Junie' Antico, his in-laws, Diane and David Devane, Jill Antico, Jane Mula, Vincent Mula, Jennifer and David Vitone, all of Waltham, Anthony and Sandra Antico of Wayland, John Antico of Concord, Jacqueline and Vincent Pizzi of Nantucket and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Stephen was also a son-in-law of the late Carol (LeBlanc) Antico.
