Mr. Steven P. Umina, Sr., of Waltham, died Wednesday, July 2, 2008 in his home. He was 83. Born in Newton, a son of the late John and Catherine (Rando) Umina, Steven was a self-employed electrician for many years. He was a graduate of Newton Technical High School, and Wentworth Institute. He was a member of American Legion Post #440 in Newton, and was an avid gardener and square dancer. Steven loved to travel and spend the winter months in Puerto Rico. He was a World War II veteran serving with the United States Navy on the U.S.S. Wisconsin and attended their yearly reunions. Steven was the brother of the late John 'Pete' Umina. He leaves his wife of sixty-eight years, Rose M. (Giardina) Umina; his children, John T. Umina and his wife, Catherine, of Concord, Joan M. Chalikis and her husband, George, of Waltham, Steven P. Umina, Jr. and his wife, Nancy, of Newton, Lisa D. Umina of New York, and Dona Marrazzo and her husband, James, of Hudson; two brothers, Gerald Umina of Mashpee and Tony Umina of Seattle, Washington; one sister, Josephine Johnson of Pheonix, Arizona; thirteen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. The Funeral will be held on Monday at 10:30 a.m. from the Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte.20), Waltham followed by a Funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church, 311 River Street, Waltham at 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham Visiting hours Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m.
