Stirling M. Olberg

Waltham- Mr. Stirling M. Olberg of Waltham died Wednesday May 5, 2004 in Norwood Hospital. He was 85. Born in Petaluma, CA a son of the late Harry J. and Frances (McCallum) Olberg, he was an Electrical Engineer for GTE for many years. He was a former lifelong member of the Pearl Harbor Survivor’s Association, Amateur Radio Relay League of America and his call sign was W1SNN, USS Massachusetts Member Committee, and he enjoyed Radioastronomy and History, and was a Technical Expert for the Noble Prize Team that developed radio telescope for Harvard University. He was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Navy. He was the husband of the late Florence V. (DiGesse) and brother of the late Douglas Olberg, Elizabeth Burnett, and Jeane McQueed. He is survived by two daughters Katherine O. Sternbach of Foster City, CA; Karen O. Field of Westwood and many nieces and nephews. The Funeral will be held Monday at 9 a.m. from The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte.20), Waltham followed by a Funeral Mass in Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road Waltham at 10 a.m. Burial will be in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne at 12:45 p.m. Visiting hours Sunday 4-7 p.m. Memorial donation’s may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association 30 Cameron Avenue, Cambridge, Ma 02140.
