Susan E. (Maher) Doherty

Mrs. Susan E. (Maher) Doherty, of Natick, passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2024 surrounded by her loving children and family in Newton-Wellesley Hospital. She was 64.

Born in Boston on October 13, 1959, she was a daughter of the late Ret. Waltham Deputy Fire Chief Robert J. and Mary E. (Rivers) Maher. Raised in Waltham she was a 1977 graduate of Waltham High School and earned her associate’s degree in radiologic technology from Mass. Bay Community College in 1980.

She had worked as a radiology technician beginning at Faulkner Hospital in Jamaica Plain for many years at Waltham Hospital and most recently at Emerson Hospital in Concord.

Susan loved keeping busy whether it was by reading a good book, listening to music, going shopping, or enjoying meals with family and friends. She loved going to Ogunquit, Maine and found great peace and solace walking the Marginal Way. Of all the things that made her happy, her children were the center of her life. She also loved being ‘grammy’ to her favorite canine, Sanibel.

She leaves her beloved children, Christopher S. Doherty of Quincy, Lauren E. Doherty of Kona, Hawaii, and Caroline R. Queen (Nicholas) of Stow; her siblings, Robert J. Maher of Maynard, Cynthia J. Martin (late Michael), and Timothy J. Maher (Kerry), all of Waltham; and many nieces, nephews, and their families.

Family and friends will honor and remember Susan’s life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Thursday, March 7^th from 4 to 7 p.m. and again Friday morning at 9 a.m. before leaving in procession to Saint Mary’s Church, 133 School Street, where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
