Susan Piantedosi was part of the fabric that makes Waltham such a wonderful community in which to live. Sue raised her three boys while working for the City of Waltham, starting as a part-time secretary at the Department of Health and eventually rising to a Senior Health Inspector position after over twenty-five years of service. She remained a member of the Board of Health in retirement. Sue was an adopted daughter of Waltham from her neighboring Watertown. She loved Waltham and found it the perfect place to raise a family.
Her husband, Anthony, a former vice-principal of Waltham High School, kept a busy calendar. Sue regularly attended many of the activities and functions required of him including chaperoning dances, which they referred to as "date night," and school trips. They were a great couple and each other's best friend.
Sue loved life and all the people in it. She was a warm and gracious hostess who made everyone feel welcomed. Her home was so often filled with the love and fun of family and friends. Sue religiously decorated for every holiday and season and loved entertaining for any occasion. During the summers, she treasured spending as much time as possible in Narragansett, Rhode Island and on Block Island. Time on the beach with "Nannie Sue" created wonderful memories where she gathered with Tony, her sons, daughters-in-law, and her six grandkids. Sue loved reading a good book, tending to her house and gardens, and enjoying a glass of wine to toast to the goodness of life and her many blessings.
Susan Marie Bartley was born in Cambridge on October 15, 1948, a daughter of the late Richard T. and Ruth M. (Healey) Bartley. Raised in Watertown, she graduated from Watertown High School with the class of 1966. She married Waltham native, Anthony J. Piantedosi, on November 20, 1971, in Saint Patrick's Church and then made Waltham her home.
Diagnosed less than a month ago with a rare and aggressive form of cancer, she died Friday, September 30, 2022, with her family at her side in Care Dimensions Hospice Residence in Lincoln after her brief battle with the cancer. She was 73.
In addition to her husband of 50 years, Tony, she leaves her sons Paul F. Piantedosi and his wife, Amanda, of Waltham; Brian A. Piantedosi and his wife, Kelly, of Arlington, Virginia; and Mark T. Piantedosi and his wife, Allison, of Easton; her grandchildren Sidney, Emi, Rosaleen, Ava, Elizabeth and Teddy; her brother, Richard Bartley and his wife, Wendy, of South Yarmouth and the late Joseph, Robert and Paul Bartley; her sister-in-law and close friend, Carol Bartley of Waltham; brother-in-law, Peter Piantedosi and his wife, Deborah, of Waltham; cousin Daniel Swenson and his wife, Abby, of Waltham, niece Tracey Mendez and her husband, Raul, of Waltham, and Kristen Hanright and her husband, Paul, of Lewellen, NE; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended relatives, and dear friends.
