Terry Frechette would agree with Arnold Palmer's assessment that 'golf is deceptively simple and endlessly complicated. It satisfies the soul and frustrates the intellect. It is at the same time rewarding and maddening - and it is without a doubt the greatest game mankind has ever invented.' Terry Frechette's lifelong love affair with golf began as young boy at age ten as a caddy at Weston Golf Club.
He made a career of the much loved sport and worked even up until shortly before his death. Upon graduation from Boston College in 1964, he worked in sales in the golf profession for companies including U.S. Royal Co., Ben Hogan Co., FootJoy, AHEAD, US Kids Golf, and RJ Shepherd. He was a well-known and respected professional in the industry throughout New England and beyond.
Terry died peacefully on Friday, September 07, 2018 after a struggle with Lewy Body Dementia. He was 78.
Terrance A. Frechette was born on June 27, 1940 in Waltham. He was a son of the late Albert R. and Catherine (McGann) Frechette. His dad, a letter carrier, and his mother, a secretary in the city clerk's office, raised him in Waltham where he graduated from St. Mary's High School with the class of 1959. He continued his studies at Boston College where he played football for the Eagles. There he also met the love of his life, Carole R. Capone from Astoria Queens, NY. After winning her affection and then their courtship, they married on February 1, 1964 in Saint Julia's Church in Weston where they made their home.
He adored his large family of five children, in-laws, and eighteen grandchildren. While the love of golf and all that encompassed it might have been what identified him, nothing compared to the love he had for his family. He was always active and willing to help. Ever present on the sidelines or behind the glass of the hockey rinks of various games of his children, and later his grandchildren, he boasted with pride over each of them.
He enjoyed membership at Weston Golf Club and Saint Julia's Parish and the New England Professional Golf Association (NEPGA). Professionally, he was the NEPGA's recipient of its George S. Wemyss Award for his dedication and service to NEPGA's community. Terry was also honored by the NEPGA with an honorary lifetime membership.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his grandson, David R. Goguen, his brother, John D. Frechette and his brother-in-law, Donald L. Capone and sister-in-law, Sr. Janet Capone O.P.
He leaves his wife of 54 years, Carole, their children, Kristen E. Goguen (Richard), Timothy J. Frechette (Mara Burnett), all of Weston, David N. Frechette (Mika) of Ferrisburgh, Vermont, Daneile N. Wilson (Nicholas) of Winchester and John D. Frechette (Christian Burch) of Jackson Hole, Wyoming; his grandchildren Terrance, John, Katherine, Caroline, Joseph and Thomas Goguen, Finley, Gillis, Fitz and Mick Frechette, Harley, Michael, Adeline and Beatrice Frechette, Elizabeth, Christopher, Ian and Henry Wilson; his sister-in-law Patricia C. Frechette of Mashpee and Naples, Florida; also survived by many nieces & nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Terry's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Tuesday, September 11th from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Wednesday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Julia Church, 374 Boston Post Road, Weston where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery. A reception will be held at The Weston Golf Club following the ceremony.
