Waltham - Mrs. Theresa B. (Maher) Smith of Waltham, died Tuesday, March 22, 2011 in the Epoch of Weston Nursing Center. She was 78.
Theresa was born in April 13, 1932 in Waltham, a daughter of the late William and Ida (Fewer) Maher. She was a graduate of Waltham High School and a lifelong Waltham resident.
Before her retirement, Theresa worked for many years as a nurse’s assistant at the former Middlesex County Hospital on Trapelo Road in Waltham.
She was a member of Saint Mary’s Church as well as the Ladies Auxiliary of the Loyal Order of Moose. Her interests included poetry, writing, and reading.
Theresa is predeceased by her siblings, Robert Maher, William Maher, and Catherine Landry.
She leaves her children, Walter J. Smith Jr. and his fiancée, Maureen A. Williams, Michael T. Smith and his wife, Patricia, all of Waltham and Dawn T. MacDougall and her husband, Donald, of Port St. Lucie, Florida; her sister, Mary Auld of Waltham; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Theresa’s life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Sunday, March 27th, from 2 to 5 p.m. and again at 8 a.m. on Monday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Mary’s Church, 133 School Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
