Waltham – Retired Newton Police Motorcycle Patrol Officer Thomas J. "Lumpy" Arsenault, of Waltham, died Tuesday, November 10, 2015 in Tufts Medical Center, Boston. He was 65.
Tom was born in Waltham on April 16, 1950, a son of the late Clarence and Gertrude (Coyle) Arsenault, and had been a lifelong resident.
After graduating from Waltham High School in 1968 he joined the United States Navy during the Vietnam War and served for four years as a diver aboard USS Edenton (ATS 1), a Navy rescue and salvage ship.
In 1976 he joined the Newton Police Department where he was a motorcycle patrol officer until his retirement in 2005. He was a graduate of Western New England College where he earned a bachelor's degree in criminal justice and a master's degree in criminal justice administration.
A lifelong motorcycle enthusiast, Tom was a member of the "Blue Reapers" Motorcycle Club where he proudly rode his Harley Electra Glide in many charity events, military events and for a time with the Patriot Guard.
He also enjoyed photography, woodworking, reading, and crossword puzzles.
He leaves his wife of forty-two years, Barbara L. (Robertson) Arsenault; his children, Thomas J. Arsenault, Jr. of Billerica and Bryan E. Arsenault and his wife, Carol, of Tewksbury; his brothers and sisters, Robert P. Arsenault and his wife, Lois, of Red Lion Pennsylvania, Janet M. Lombardi of Waltham, Patricia A. McAndrews and her husband, Robert, of Marlborough and William L. Arsenault and his wife, Joanne, of Waltham and many nieces and nephews.
Tom was also the brother-in-law of the late Thomas Lombardi.
Family and friends will honor and remember Tom's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Sunday, November 15th from 3 to 7 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Monday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham, where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne at 1:15 p.m.
