Mr. Thomas E. “Tommy” Libitz, Sr., of Waltham, died Saturday, June 1, 2024 at his home. He was 74.
Tommy was born in Cambridge on December 21, 1949, a son of the late Joseph and Catherine (Moore) Libitz. His family moved to Weston when he was a child and he was a 1968 graduate of Weston High School.
Until his retirement he worked for Lappen’s Auto which later became Advanced Auto Parts. Before that Tommy worked for years in shipping and receiving for Compo Industries and for Quincy Cold Storage.
Sports were always an important part of Tommy’s life and he played baseball and hockey for years. He also belonged to bowling leagues at ‘The Wal-Lex’ on Lexington Street. He will best be remembered by his family and friends for his lifelong affection, dedication and loyalty to the Boston Bruins.
A Waltham resident for more than forty years, he married Maryellen M. Fichtner in Our Lady Help of Christians Church in Newton on July 21, 1974 and the couple enjoyed forty-five years together before her death on August 17, 2019.
He leaves his children, Lianne M. Meek (Thomas St. Germain) of Nashua, New Hampshire, Mark C. Woolsey of Keene, New Hampshire, Thomas E. ‘TJ’ Libitz Jr. of Waltham and Jennifer D. Tesorero (Duane) of North Billerica; his grandchildren Sarah Lugo , Andrew and Ryan Meek, Emylee St. Germain-Wilkinson, Brittany, Kimberly and Kristin Woolsey and Evan S. Libitz; his great-grandchildren, Hayleigh-Maree, Cerhenity-Lynne, Dante, Destini-Nevaeh, Olivia, Xzilia, Kona, Jeremiah, Abbigayle, Ellianna, Dominick, and Samuel; his siblings, Michael Libitz (Marjorie) of Reading, Margie Boudrot (Jackie) of Waltham, Paul Libitz (Laurie) of Hudson, New Hampshire, Joseph Libitz of Ashburnham, Joan Libitz of Cambridge; his grandpups, Soxx, Kofee, Shoozi and Koko and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, Maryellen, and his parents, Tommy was predeceased by his brother Robert "Robbie" Libitz and granddaughter Tiffany Woolsey.
Family and friends will honor and remember Tommy’s life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Friday, June 7th from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and will conclude with his funeral service at 6 p.m. Burial will be privateFriday, June 7, 2024
