Thomas E. Maguire, of Waltham, died Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at home with his dear wife by his side. He lived 82 amazing years before succumbing to complications arising from dementia.
Tim, as he was nicknamed in childhood, was born in Waltham on March 5, 1942, a son of the late Thomas F. and G. Marie (Venuti) Maguire, and had been a lifelong resident. He was a 1962 graduate of Waltham Vocational High School and after that took drafting and mechanical engineering courses at Northeastern University in Boston.
He had a strong work ethic and held a variety of positions but never let his work-life interfere with his real job of being a devoted husband and great Dad. He enjoyed working at the Weston Golf Club because all of his children worked there with him. His family was his life.
Tim was a devout Catholic who attended Mass weekly. His faith gave him strength. In 2020, after a cancer diagnosis, he let go of worry and entrusted his fate to God and his plan.
Tim and Marjorie were dedicated to serving their community. As parishioners at St. Mary’s church in Waltham, they spent countless hours doing charity work with the St. Vincent de Paul Society. A favorite event was working with the local high school distributing donated toys to families in need. He made this a family event and brought his children along to help. This taught them a valuable lesson about service and putting others above yourself.
He leaves his beloved wife, Marjorie (Stanton) Maguire; his children, Laura and Donny Welch of Mansfield, Brian and Melissa Maguire of Portsmouth, NH, Lisa Gomes of Peabody, Michelle and Marty Ziobrowski of Dresden, ME and Tommy and Lisa Maguire of Wilmington; his nine grandchildren, Grace, Tyler, Maddie, Sammy, Abby, Sophia, Brooke, Jackson, Logan; his sister, Jackie Campbell, and her husband Carl of Amherst, NH; and brother, Danny Maguire and his wife, Laurie of Milford and many wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Tim was also a brother of the late William Lawrence Maguire, who died in infancy.
A Funeral Mass for Tim will be offered at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 26th in Saint Mary’s Church, 133 School Street, Waltham. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, please honor Tim’s life by making a donation to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVDP) ℅ St. Mary’s Church 133 School Street, Waltham 02451 or online through the church website.
