Waltham – Mr. Thomas F. McCarthy, of Waltham, died Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge. He was 94.
Tom was born in Cambridge on August 20, 1916, a son of the late William F. and Ellen T. (O’Callaghan) McCarthy and had lived in Waltham since 1944. He was co-founder of Carlisle Screw Corporation where he had worked for thirty years before his retirement in 1980. Tom enjoyed golfing, bowling, reading, traveling, photography and was a talented artist. He was a member of the Watertown and Newton Art Association.
The husband of the late Florence J. (Micelli) McCarthy, he leaves his children, Jeanne M. Finley of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, Kathleen R. McCarthy of Newport, Rhode Island, Eileen F. Lowe of Waltham, MaryAnn Stack of Moorestown, New Jersey, John A. McCarthy of Waltham, William G. McCarthy of Bedford, and Therese M. McCarthy of Waltham; his brother, Francis McCarthy of Dorchester; his sisters, Mary Harris of Quincy, and Eileen Batakis of Worcester; 9 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was also a brother of the late Evelyn Burke-Lidkea and Arthur McCarthy.
Family and friends will honor and remember Tom’s life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte.20), Waltham on Friday March 11th, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and again at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Mary’s Church, 133 School Street, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
