Waltham – Mr. Thomas W. 'Riggsy' Riggs, of Waltham, died Sunday, June 22, 2008 at Tufts Medical Center in Boston after a period of failing health. He was 53. Born in Waltham, a son of Norma M. (Ledger) Riggs of Waltham, Tom was a lifelong resident. Until his retirement in 2005, Tom was a firefighter for twenty years for the Waltham Fire Department. During the Vietnam War he served with the United States Marine Corps. Tom was a member of the Elks, Lodge No. 953, the Joseph F. Hill American Legion Post No. 156 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post No. 2152, all of Waltham. He also belonged to the International Association of Fire Fighters, Local No. 866. In his spare time he enjoyed golfing and deep sea fishing. In addition to his mother, Tom leaves one brother, Gordon Riggs of Lowell; three sisters, Pat Sullivan and her husband, Mike, of Scarborough, Maine, Sandy Riggs of Waltham and Jackie Riggs of Florida and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral at 9 a.m. Thursday from The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte.20), Waltham followed by a Funeral Mass in Saint Charles Borromeo Church, 51 Hall Street, Waltham at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
