Trudy Darrah, 74 passed away peacefully in her sleep to her Heavenly rest on Friday, January 17th, 2025. Born on June 16th, 1950 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the daughter of Malcolm MacLeod Darrah and Marian Margaret Darrah (nee Power), Trudy grew up in Waltham and was a lifelong resident. She was a 1968 graduate of Waltham High School and an Education major at Framingham State College. For 15 years she put her whole heart into teaching K4 Kindergarten at the Carousel School in Waltham where she was loved by all of her students. The next 25 years were spent being the Surgical Unit Coordinator at Emerson Hospital in Concord where she proved herself to be an asset to all those she worked with.
A loving daughter, sister, Aunt and friend Trudy was a kind, gentle, resilient, tough, creative, independent soul that excelled at all she did and left an imprint on all of the hearts around her. She had a creative, artistic eye, a talent for decorating, loved creating anything with flowers, cooking and baking. She had a curious inquisitive mind, was as smart as a whip, was an avid reader, history buff, a perpetual learner who would always know the answer to anything you asked her. If she didn't know, she would seek it out and get back to you. A great dancer, volleyball player, a lover of movies, and music including the Beatles, the Moody Blues, Jefferson Starship and Celtic Thunder which led her to take a trip to Ireland with her cousin June one summer which was a highlight of her life.
Trudy had a special gift for giving and gifting. She would go to the ends of the earth to find the right gift that would exactly fit the person and the occasion she had in mind and it was always exactly what that person needed, wanted or loved. Her gifts always made you feel seen, special and loved. Equally, she would give of herself even to her own detriment with a listening ear, a compassionate heart, and words of wisdom. She always seemed to know just the right thing to say in the moment.
As a daughter she was an indispensable right hand girl for our Mom with 5 children, her being the oldest and twins being the youngest. We all thought of her not only as a loving sister but as our second Mother and she often functioned that way. As a sister she always had our backs, was very protective, and was a trusted confidant and friend, with a quick sense of humor and lots of fun to be with. Being with her was like coming home. A very loving and involved Aunt, her nieces and nephews could always expect something special and fun to happen whenever they were with Aunt Trudy, whether it was a new toy, game or book. A trip to Drumlin Farm, a museum, the circus, Storyland, a train ride to Boston just for fun or a trip to Disney World that she planned for the whole family one Christmas and largely funded it all. Her great love of reading and of children's books was something she passed down to her nieces and nephews through all of the books she gave to them in their childhoods and that they still have and hold dear to this day. Trudy made many special memories with all of our children whom she loved dearly.
Her love and knowledge for all things British including the British Antiques Roadshow and the Royal family, the U.S. Military, she never missed an Army Navy game, York Beach Maine and it's GoldenRod Restaurant and Taffy and Whipersing Sands and their Peanut Butter Fudge, children and children's books, creativity, artististic abilities, Christmas and anything to do with Christmas, animals and especially cats, her talent for giving and gifting, her resilience, dependability, toughness, gentleness, quick wit, intelligence empathy and compassion and unconditional love for her family are all things that will forever be in our hearts and minds and cherished about Trudy.
She is survived by her sister Florence (Christy) Fisher, (nee Darrah) and her husband Wayne of Waltham Massachusetts. Her brother Bill Darrah and wife Kathy of Dayton, Maine. Her sister Margaret Isbell, (nee Darrah) and her husband Tim of Derry, New Hampshire, and her Brother Jim Darrah and his partner Alex Volkhausen of New York City, She is also survived by her Nieces and Nephews Ben, Sarah, Ryan, Jacob, Kaity and Wesley Darrah, Matthew Darrah, Sarah Fisher, Malcolm Isbell, Jedidiah Isbell, Phoenix Smith and Levi Isbell along with many cousins and friends.
