Watertown – Mrs. Mary W. 'Una' (Hughes) Egan, of Watertown, died Monday, July 27, 2015 in Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington. She was 81.
Una was born in County Mayo, Ireland, on June 23, 1934, a daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Gilmore) Ireland. Raised in Shrule, County Mayo she came to the United States in 1962, settling in Watertown. She took great care of her home and was a talented seamstress and gardener.
She leaves her husband, James Egan; her daughter, Christine A. Watters and her husband, Mícheál, of Virginia, County Cavan, Ireland; her grandchildren, Mícheál, Aideen, Ciara, and Dáiríne Watters; her sisters, Anne Doyle of London, England, Julia McDonald of Isle of Skye, Scotland, Ena Maye of London, England and Crissy Flannery of Athenry, County Galway, Ireland and many nieces and nephews.
Una was also a sister of the late Teresa, Philomena, Ollie and John Hughes.
Family and friends will honor and remember Una's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Friday, July 31st from 5 to 8 p.m. and again at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Jude Church, 147 Main Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Lackagh, Co. Galway, Ireland.
