Waltham – "Long after we are too big to carry in her arms, a mother carries us in her heart."
And in her heart is where Veronica Kramer carried the hopes, dreams, ups and downs of the lives of her children and grandchildren for whom she reserved large doses of love, prayers, and affection.
In October, 1960 she married Dorchester native William J. Kramer and the pair soon moved into a brand new home in Our Lady's parish where they raised their family of six children. Bill and Veronica enjoyed fifty-one happy years together before his death on December 11, 2011.
It was at home where she found her greatest contentment but in her early years she worked for the New England Telephone Company and returned there to work for a time when her youngest kids went off to school. In later years she worked at the Heartland grocery store in Watertown, a job that she truly enjoyed.
Veronica T. Guilfoyle was born in Boston on September 2, 1933 to Irish immigrant parents Michael and Winifred (McIntyre) Guilfoyle, and lived in Roxbury when she was a youngster. The family moved to Waltham just after World War II and she graduated from Saint Patrick's High School in Watertown. She died in the home that she loved on Sunday, February 7, 2016 after an uphill battle against cancer.
She leaves her children, William M. Kramer and his wife, Linda, of Kennebunk, Maine, Kevin J. Kramer and his wife, Heather, of Hopkinton, Janet T. Gross and her husband, Joseph, of Kennebunk, Maine, Andrew F. Kramer and his wife, Beth, of Millis, James P. Kramer and his wife, Susan, of Bridgewater and Michael J. Kramer and his wife, Donna, of Raynham; her brother, James Guilfoyle of Old Bridge, New Jersey; nineteen grandchildren; one great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
Veronica was also the grandmother of the late Emma Kramer and a sister of the late Lillian Curran, Josephine Maloney and Ruth Rivard.
Family and friends will honor and remember Veronica's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Wednesday, February 10th from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Thursday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham, where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
