Waltham – "Courage is not having the strength to go on . . . it is going on when you don't have the strength."
Vinnie Cirino never came up short in the courage department during his battle with acute myeloid leukemia. It may have zapped his strength but never his spirit.
In the end the cancer became just too much to overcome.
Vincent Cirino, of Waltham, died Thursday, July 7, 2016 in Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston knowing that he was loved and wanted and needed by his family who walked with him every step of the way. He was 31.
Vinnie was born in Waltham on March 15, 1985, a son of Anthony and Maria (Pulselli) Cirino of Waltham. A lifelong Waltham resident he grew up playing soccer and baseball and played at the varsity level in both sports at Waltham High School. He had been working for a number of years as a mortgage broker.
As he got a bit older he picked up a passion for golf and crossfit and was a member of the Watch City Cross Fit Club. He also played in Waltham's adult leagues in softball and soccer, always staying fit and in shape. He was a lifelong fan of the Juventus Football Club, a professional soccer team based in Turin, Italy.
In addition to his mother and father he leaves his brother and sister, Joseph Cirino and his fiancé, Jenna Bernado, of Waltham and Frances Cirino of New York City; his grandmother, Gerlanda Alfeo of France; his longtime girlfriend, Jennifer Bou-Nassif and many aunts, uncles, cousins and a large group of close friends.
Family and friends will honor and remember Vinnie's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Monday, July 11th from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Tuesday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
