Virginia B. Hills

Weston – Mrs. Virginia 'Ginny' (Biggi) Hills, of Weston, died Thursday, March 21, 2013 at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. She was 94.

Ginny was born in Somerville on July 13, 1918, a daughter of the late Frank and Edna (Noyes) Biggi and was raised on her family's farm in Carlisle. She was a graduate of Concord High School.

On February 23, 1938 she married Waltham native Russell M. Hills, Sr. and the couple lived in Lexington and in Waltham before settling in Weston in 1958 where they raised their family. Ginny was always on the go . . . helping out with the Girl Scouts and the Boy Scouts or volunteering for years with the Waltham Hospital Auxiliary. She was long active at her church, Christ Episcopal, in Waltham where the Hills family worshipped for generations.

Ginny belonged to the Massachusetts Audubon Society where she nurtured her love of the outdoors and of animals. She was a proud horse owner but her greater interest was in a lifelong passion for bird watching. Ginny also loved to tend to her home and the gardens that surrounded it.

Her husband of seventy years, Russ, died October 19, 2008.

She leaves her children, Joanne C. 'Jody' Hills of Waltham, Linda H. Brown and her husband, Stanley, Virginia 'Ginger' Lopez and her husband, John, all of Acton and Russell M. 'Rusty' Hills, Jr. and his wife, Alexandra 'Randy', of Wayland; her grandchildren, Diana Denmark, Clarissa Maynard, Laura Brown, Andrew Brown, Allison Gurry, Katherine Marcincavage, Susan Sternberg, Julia Hoag, Richard Lopez, Katherine Borelli, Keith Hills and Dana Riley; sixteen great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Ginny was also the grandmother of the late John Lopez and sister of the late Carolyn Pennini.

Family and friends will honor and remember Ginny's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Wednesday, March 27th, from 3 to 6 p.m. followed by her funeral service at 6 p.m. Burial will be private.
