Waltham – Mrs. Virginia P. (MacDowell) Redding, of Waltham, died Monday, September 23, 2013 in Mount Auburn Hospital, Cambridge. She was 84.
Virginia was born in Boston on December 29, 1928, a daughter of the late Charles Scofield and Elfreida (Lane) MacDowell. She was a lifelong Waltham resident and was devoted to taking care of, not only her own family, but any child in need. She was a foster mother to countless and was recognized for her selfless giving by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
The wife of the late James E. Redding she leaves her children, Charles R. Redding and his wife, Ginger, of St. Petersburg, Florida, Patricia J. Wellman of Waltham, Jane A. Redding of St. Petersburg, Florida, and Darlene M. Walazek of Waltham; her sister-in-law, Josephine MacDowell of Waltham; 11 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Roy MacDowell, Sr. and Paul MacDowell and mother-in-law of the late Brian Wellman.
Family and friends will honor and remember Virginia's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Thursday, September 26th, from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 11 a.m. on Friday morning when her funeral service will be held. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
