Waltham Rev. Vito F. Cannizzo, C.S.S., a member of the Stigmatine Fathers and Brothers, died Sunday March 5, 2006 in his home. He was 90. Born in Brockton on June 13, 1915, Father Cannizzo entered the Stigmatine Seminary, in Waltham on September 18, 1933. He professed his first vows as a Stigmatine religious on September 9, 1935 and was ordained to the priesthood on June 11, 1943 at the Stigmatine Major Seminary Chapel in Wellesley. Father Cannizzo was a graduate of Brockton High School in 1933, the Stigmatine Minor Seminary in 1935 and the Stigmatine Major Seminary in 1943. Father Cannizzo served as associate pastor at St. Anns Church, Sprinfield, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in White Plains, New York, All Saints Church in Manassas, Virginia and at Sacred Heart Church in Timmins, Ontario, Canada. He was also the pastor at St. Joachims Church in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario and at Sacred Heart Church in Timmins. Father Cannizzo also served as Religious Superior for three years at the Stigmatine House of Studies in Washington, D.C. in the mid 1950s. Father Cannizzo was the son of the late Vito and Marianna (Inguanti) Cannizzo and a brother of the late John Cannizzo, Gregory Cannizzo and Mary Cioni. He is survived by many nieces and nephews, one great-niece and four great-nephews. Visitation will be held Wednesday March 8, from 9 to 10:15 a.m. in the Espousal Center Chapel, 554 Lexington Street, Waltham, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Milford.
