Walter M. Bailey of Waltham, passed away Tuesday, November 12, 2024 at Lahey Hospital in Burlington. He was 79.
Born on March 7, 1945, Walter was the cherished son of Garnett and Edna (Graves) Bailey. He grew up in Waltham, where he completed his education at Waltham High, graduating in 1962. Following his high school years, Walter proudly served in the United States Navy.
After his military service, Walter pursued further education at Bryant Stratton School of Business in Boston, which paved the way for a long and successful career with the City of Waltham. He served as an operations supervisor in the information technology department, a role in which he devoted many years of his life until retirement.
Growing up, Walter treasured family time and always looked forward to summer vacations in Hyannis, where many happy memories were made. A passionate car enthusiast, he developed a particular fondness for classic cars, especially his cherished 1950s Ford. He often attended antique car shows, including memorable trips to the Hershey Park Car Show, particularly cherished for the times spent with his brother.
Faith played a significant role in Walter's life. He found comfort and community at the First Baptist Church in Waltham, where he actively participated in congregational activities. In addition to his church involvement, Walter was a proud and valued member of the Freemasons, where he belonged to Monitor Lodge of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons in Waltham, previously holding the position of Master in the 34th Lodge of Instruction, and being associated with the Consistory of M.A. Aleppo Temple Shriner and the Order of Eastern Star, where he served as Worthy Patron of Electa Chapter Past Patron.
Walter is predeceased by his brother Garnett Bailey Junior and David Bailey.
He leaves his sisters-in-law, Eleanor Bailey of Malden and Maureen Arsenault of Springvale, Maine along with many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Walter’s burial will be private. Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Walter’s life at First Baptist Church, 400 Lexington St, Waltham on Saturday November 23rd where his memorial service will be held at 10 a.m.
