Walter E. Cooper

October 23, 1923 — January 9, 2017

Waltham – Mr. Walter E. Cooper, of Waltham, died on Monday, January 9, 2017 in Newton Wellesley Hospital. He was 93.

Walter was born in Welsford, New Brunswick, Canada on October 23, 1923, the son of the late Roy L. and Elvira E. (Armstrong) Cooper. As a child his family moved to Massachusetts and upon graduating from Brookline High School Walter joined the U.S. Army Air Corp and served honorably during World War II. After returning home he went back to school and earned his Bachelor's degree from Boston University in 1950. Shortly thereafter he married the love of his life, Edith Moffett, in Union Church of Watertown. The pair settled in Waltham in 1955 where they would raise their family and have lived ever since.

Walter worked hard to provide for his family and instilled in them the value of a good education. He had worked as a Certified Public Accountant for various firms before becoming his own boss. He was very involved in his community and served with the Waltham Rotary Club as their president and treasurer, he belonged to the Waltham Triad Lodge AF & AM, was a Rotary bell ringer at Christmas time and was very active at his church, Christ Church Episcopal, on Main Street.

Family was most important to Walter and he loved to spend time with them, whether it was watching Bruins games together on the couch, going into Fenway to watch the Sox play or a vacation driving cross country in his station wagon, it was with them that he was happiest. Walter was a world traveler. He and Edith traveled to Alaska, Bermuda, Classical Europe, the Caribbean, Disney World Florida, England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Hawaii and the Pacific Northwest, along with yearly trips to New Brunswick and New Hampshire.

He is survived by his beloved wife of over sixty-six years, Edith (Moffett) Cooper; his children, Jane C. Farrar and her husband, Robert, of Reading, Linda C. McKinnon and her husband, Arthur 'Butch', of Medway and Laura E. Cooper and her husband, Jim Morgan, of Waltham and his grandchildren, Erin Angelini and her husband, Christopher, and Courtney Farrar.
