Waltham – Mr. Walter T. McGovern, Jr., of Waltham, died Saturday, October 13, 2012 at Kindred Hospital in Brighton. He was 56.
Walter was born in Waltham on March 9, 1956, a son of Walter T., Sr. and Marion G. (Johnson) McGovern of Waltham, and had been a lifelong resident. He was a graduate of Waltham High School and although he suffered from disabilities he lived life to the fullest. Wally was an accomplished abstract artist, poet and coin collector. His book of poetry, entitled Cornucopia, was published in 1999.
In addition to his parents, Walter leaves his sister and brother, Judith A. 'Jody' Brennan and her husband, William of Milford and Richard S. 'Rick' McGovern and his wife, Janice, of Franklin and his nephews and niece, William, Andrew and Miriam 'Emmy' Brennan and James, Brian and his wife, Melissa, and Jason McGovern.
Family and friends will honor and remember Walter's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Thursday, October 18th, from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Friday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Charles Borromeo Church, 51 Hall Street, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
