Waltham – Mr. Warren W. Cooke, of Waltham, died Tuesday August 17, 2010 at the Walden Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Concord. He was 96.
Warren was born on December 25, 1913 in Wakefield, a son of the late Charles W. and Nora (Crowley) Cooke. He was a graduate of Wakefield High School and Wentworth Institute in Boston. He met his future wife, Alice, in 1939 at a resort in Poland Springs, Maine where both were working, she as a waitress and he as a printer. Warren moved to Waltham a year later and they married shortly thereafter.
During World War II he served as a master sergeant with the United States Army Air Corps. After the war Warren went to work for the J.L. Thomson Company in Waltham where he spent a 33 year career retiring in 1975. He spent his retirement years spending time with his family, reading and like most New Englanders, following the Boston Red Sox.
His wife, Alice N. (Van Wart) Cooke, died in June, 1993.
He leaves his daughters, Noreen A. and Patricia A. Cooke, both of Waltham and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Warren’s life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Friday morning before leaving in procession to Sacred Heart Church, 311 River Street, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
